GREAT NEWS! On November 3, 2021, the OBA was presented a grant by the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association in the amount of $2,000 for the continuation of the mural project in Oneonta. With its website at northalabama.org, the grantor organization was formed in 1964 with the express purpose of developing North Alabama’s travel industry and marketing the region to the traveling public. They now serve 16 counties with an ever-expanding membership base representing progressive travel-related businesses and associations as well as various levels of government. Their goal is to expand on, and not duplicate, the objectives of efforts of local associations and organizations that represent specific industry components, working together in a unified effort to promote the 16-county region’s natural, historic, and man-made attractions.
Congratulations to Our Approved Artists for the OBA Art Walk

The "Welcome to Oneonta" Mural
The "Welcome to Oneonta" mural is the second Paint the Town project by the OBA. Expert muralist Sam Sanfilippo of Skidmore Signs painted the mural, but we had several volunteers who assisted in prepping the wall.
Benjamin Moore Donated Paint!
The OBA is thankful for the donation of approximately $5,000 worth of their superb exterior Aura paint for the OBA Art Walk and Welcome to Oneonta mural projects. Special thanks to Tim Serena for his assistance with the paint that came from the Pell City plant.
The Oneonta Art Walk
The Paint the Town Committee and local volunteers began prepping the workspace on May 3, 2020, by pressure washing the areas for the Oneonta Art Walk and the Oneonta Welcome mural. Due to the COVID-19 social distancing and the postponement of the June Fling, the OBA extended the work time for artists to June 15 - August 14, 2020. The Art Walk Plaza will be located behind Miller's Soda Shoppe and be topped with white sail shades. The OBA's downtown music system will be heard there with the addition of another speaker donated by Adam Stephens of Stream South Communicatons. LED lights are already hung throughout the walkway. We also hope to add some all-in-one picnic tables (mounted to the ground) and floral planters, and a trash receptacle. If you'd like to sponsor the purchase of a table, please get in touch with us! The official "unveiling" of the OBA Art Walk took place on Saturday, August 29, in conjunction with the Classic Cruise-In event. The artists are featured in the photo below as they were honored for their achievement and presented a special edition black OBA Art Walk t-shirt.
Take a Stroll Down the OBA Art Walk... BEFORE PHOTOS
This is the walkway where many local artists will create beautiful murals. The walls had to be cleaned, primed, and painted a gray background color before the artist spaces were assigned. Artists will begin work in mid-June.
About the "Paint the Town" Project
The Oneonta Business Association is bringing color and excitement to town! Together, with the OBA’s successful Light the Town campaign, we are officially unveiling our plans for Paint the Town in 2020! We’ve been doing our homework and getting our ducks in a row to bring you a massive surprise! Thanks to the generosity and partnership of local property owners, we will be producing murals painted in downtown Oneonta, boosting tourism and promoting our emerging artist community. As with our Light the Town campaign, the downtown area is only Phase One! We have already begun plans to share this beauty with other areas of Oneonta, giving our town a fresh face and a reason for people to stop, shop, and visit our beautiful community.
In 2018, the Oneonta Business Association sponsored the unforgettable Angel Wings Mural. Since that time, it’s been listed on the Murals Trail of Alabama, with people from all over the state and beyond stopping for a visit.

Tourism and murals go hand-in-hand. Americans for the Arts found that every dollar invested into non-profit arts (such as murals) generates $6 in taxes. Once locals and tourists frequent a mural and spend their money in the area, the building on which the mural is painted becomes more desirable, ultimately increasing its property value. The OBA is very excited about this project. If you'd like to get involved as a volunteer, email us at [email protected].
