About the OBA
Organized in the late 90s, the Oneonta Business Association is a membership organization representing businesses, professionals, financial institutions, arts groups, associated agencies and organizations, and private individuals who share an interest in promoting and doing business in the City of Oneonta. We wish to serve as advocates for the business interests of the city and promote Oneonta as a unique, thriving, small-town experience in north central Alabama. We strive to generate effective promotional ideas and events to help maintain Oneonta's position as a great shopping and dining destination and provide opportunities for business owners and residents to participate in programs and events that support the quality of life in our community.
Oneonta is located in Blount County in north central Alabama, 35 miles northeast of Birmingham. Situated in the heart of beautiful Murphree's Valley, Oneonta was incorporated on February 18, 1881, and became the county seat in 1897. The 2010 United States Census indicated the city's population numbers just over 6500. Our interactive member directory allows you to discover the various businesses and organizations that are part of our organization.
The OBA is a 501 (c) (6) non-profit organization with all-volunteer staffing and officers. Membership fees are used to cover administrative expenses, website design and maintenance, advertising in local media, printing, etc. We work together to provide local events that will bring people to Oneonta for fun, fellowship, and shopping, thereby keeping our tax dollars at home and strengthening our community.
The OBA meets each third Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. Meetings are held in the board room of St. Vincent's Blount hospital. Enter the main doors, turn left and then an immediate right and go down the Administration hallway. Meeting room is the fourth door on the left.
There is no paid staff. The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors.
