Oneonta City Council Elections 2025: Here’s Who’s Running—and Who Isn’t
The field is set for Oneonta’s 2025 municipal election, and while some City Council seats are drawing multiple challengers, others are going uncontested—including the mayor’s race.
Here’s how the races are shaping up:
⸻
Mayor: Richard Phillips (Unopposed)
Mayor Richard Phillips is seeking re-election and will appear solo on the ballot. With no challengers, Phillips is expected to serve another term.
⸻
Place 1: Jesse Devaney vs. Frank Nette
In loving memory of Councilwoman Judy Underwood, who passed away on May 2nd, 2025. Through her hard work and tireless service, she left an indelible mark on our community, and filling her seat will be no easy task! This Race is one to watch as Jesse Devaney and Frank Nette go head-to-head.
⸻
Place 2: Sherry Pierce (Unopposed)
Councilperson Sherry Pierce, a small business owner and CPA, is running unopposed. A graduate of Appalachian High School and UAB, Pierce brings 25 years of accounting experience to the table and will retain her seat without a challenger.
⸻
Place 3: OPEN – Four Candidates Jump In
Incumbent Donald Bradley, a Navy veteran and longtime law enforcement officer, is not seeking re-election. In his place, Nate Butler, Connor Doyle and Ron Lemons have all qualified, making Place 3 the most crowded race of the cycle.
⸻
Place 4: Lee Alexander (Unopposed)
Lee Alexander, the current Place 4 councilmember, will remain on the council without opposition this year.
⸻
Place 5: Robbie McAlpine (Unopposed)
Robbie McAlpine, a lifelong Oneonta resident and business owner, is also running unopposed. McAlpine previously served on the Oneonta City School Board before being elected to the council.
⸻
The election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Be sure to check with the City of Oneonta for updates on registration deadlines and polling places.
