A Creation by Kids - Part of the OBA's "Paint the Town" Project
A Partnership Project with Xcel Masonry
The Oneonta Business Association (OBA) invites local children to express “Oneonta Rocks” by helping to produce a beautiful, colorful "stream" of painted stones to promote tourism in our community. This project also provides an opportunity for children to get away from their screens and express their creativity in a landmark project they can claim as their own. The OBA will soon announce the location in this next component of its "Paint the Town" efforts. Xcel Masonry, local contractor, is supplying the rocks that will be uniform in size and provide a smooth surface for colorful acrylic paint.
This is not the first time children have united to create a work of art for display. Painted rocks have been used in "hide and seek" adventures, with photos of the found rocks posted on social media. Also, the children of Sharon Elementary School in Newburgh, Indiana, combined creativity and literature to create a beautiful piece of art that will encourage students for years to come and has become a viral sensation on social media. The latter project inspired the OBA to sponsor the creation of a tourist attraction created by children right here in Oneonta, Alabama.
Once all plans are in place, the OBA will announce where and when children can obtain their rocks. Instructions for rock painting will also be provided so children use materials that will last a long time. Painting can take place at home, in school settings, or at special events. Children will be asked to "sign" their rocks with their first names or initials. The organization will also provide a timeline for its completion. Local artists, teachers, children's ministers, and preschool workers are invited to help with this project. Just use the form below to let us know!
