The 2019 Festival of Lights promises to be the biggest and best ever! Here are the current plans and ways in which you can become involved in making Oneonta a holiday attraction and shopping destination!
Sunday, November 17, 1 pm
Volunteers will meet at 1 p.m. at the gazebo for work assignments and then branch out to place clear LED Christmas lights on the trunks of the crepe myrtle trees on 1st Avenue East and on the shrubs. They will also decorate the City's gazebo, public restroom structure, trees, and welcome signs. Your ideas are welcome and most appreciated! Email email@example.com to let us know of any ideas you may have in decorating our hometown for the holidays! Also, if you'd like to volunteer, please email us, too, so we can put you on our list of Santa's helpers that day! For information, call 205-446-0462,
Light the Town Campaign
The OBA is raising funds with which to replace the Christmas lights that were removed from the tops of downtown buildings last year. About 25 years ago, Glenn Glaze with Ace Hardware donated the lights which had to be taken done due to deterioration of lines and the expense of powering the incandescent bulbs. The OBA plans to use LED bulbs and heavy duty outdoor electrical lines. Phase 1 will hopefully be completed in time for the Community Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. You can donate online. For more details, click here. We will also be offering commemorative "Light the Town" Christmas tree ornaments to raise funds for this project. They will be available for purchase in local stores in a few weeks.
7th Annual Holiday Decorating Contest
Individuals, organizations, and businesses are invited to decorate storefronts, yards, and structures within the city limits of Oneonta and in the business zone to compete for awards. Click here for details.
2nd Annual Festival of Lights Tree Contest
Last year, 22 beautiful decorated Christmas trees and our City's flagship tree (14 ft) were proudly displayed in the area of the town gazebo. Our goal for 2019 is 30 trees, plus the flagship tree. Early entry is encouraged as there is a limited number of trees. For more details, click here.
